Aug 14, 2009 - Mrs. Slocombe has always had colored hair. In the beginning of the show, they were afraid that it would not be successful, therefore, she dyed her own hair. After the second season she held out for wigs, since the dye was so harsh on her hair.

Nov 28, 2009 - it's also worth noting he usually gets first billing in the end credits (or occasionally second to Mollie Sugden). Billing for TV shows in those days was either done in the order they were seen in the episode or the order of importance in the cast (according to the producers). In this case it can only be because of the importance the producers gave him. He was fantastic. Always had the punchline for most scenes, and great comic timing.
