Oct 22, 2009 - I think that Mike Smith may have taken inspiration from Eccles's voice and manner of speaking when he created Bubbles. They're a bit similar in my opinion.

Dec 15, 2009 - For those who are interested, this skit came from the Goon Show Episode, The Mysterious Punch-Up-the-Conker. It's also a perfect example of the tactics that the Goons used to fill a little time every now and then on their program.

Jan 6, 2010 - I had the pleasure of watching the Goons record this show! It took them an hour and a half to perform it and the bits they cut out were absolutely hilarious! I have never forgotten it. The date was Feb 3, 1957, the place was the Camden Theatre, London, England. Spike Milligan was (and still is) my hero. What a mad genius!

Feb 22, 2010 - I cannot for the life of me work out how such a stupid sketch could actually be so genius at the same time??? British comedy proves once again that its the best in the world and even after all these years, its still unbeaten and clearly never will be!
amumblingmouse Says:
Mar 1, 2010 - this is so... beatlesque! i can eccles as ringo!
KNJGSY Says:
Mar 4, 2010 - Beatlesque ? The genius of surreal comedy - by the Masters, especially Spike Milligan. John Lennon's humour was inspired by Spike - and I think that John would have told you so himself. Along with a whole generation. ... and then came Monty Python... creative children of the Goons and Spike Q-series. Part of the cultural richness of the 1950s.

Mar 11, 2010 - Re the Beatles humour. I've found an app on the iPhone/iTouch appstore called Pocket Goon. It is based on a Show Called Fred. And guess what? It was directed by Dick Lester! He later directed A hard day's night and Help! So there is a proven and documented direct connection between Spike Milligan and the Beatles. (i.e. the same tv/film producer).
